I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who have left messages over the past 24 hours or so, i have felt overwhelmed by the support and the love for Fudge, he clearly touched a lot of peoples hearts.
There wasnt many knew he was diagnosed with a couple of cancerous tumours 6 weeks ago, one in his throat and one on his liver and that he was also riddled with arthritis. Since then there wasnt a day he wasnt sick and there were times his back legs would go and collapse, he was also losing weight and by yesterday he had lost a stone and a half. We had to make a decision before he suffered more.
I have read every message on Facebook' and by texts and emails and either smiled or cried and ive had to keep off the computer today and try and distract myself by going back to work.
Fudge was with me for nearly 13 years , through the good times and some bloody rotten ones too. Always by my side and never judging, just loving and loyal. It is not an exaggeration to say he changed my life.
It was looking for new walks that got me fell walking and an absolute love of the lakes district , its mountains and of course its pubs. This also led me to a wonderful woman and a fresh start in life.
When i set off walking little did i know we would both complete the Wainwrights twice, the miles we would walk and the adventures we would have.
The house feels so empty right now, we both miss his presence and waggy tail and some soft toy in his mouth greeting us.
We will miss his incessant barking on the fells and beaches, watching him carry the biggest stones and branches he could find and the constant dribbling when you had anything to eat, even if it was a bit of fruit...he really was a walking dustbin...he never lost that appetite right to the end , a typical labrador.
Fudges final day was spent on the local beaches his favourite places, He really was a beach bum.He had a full 99 ice cream to himself at St.Bees and was treated to a Mcdonalds burger and chips...which he brought back up later !
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all the support and love,we have great memories and photos of him, he will never be forgotten. An amazing dog who had an amazing life , Cheers old fella
